| | | Re: Bird of the day! My Bird of the Day is a Goldcrest, which I just spotted in our front garden - the first time that I've seen one here.
I happened to look out of my bedroom window, and saw that there was a Wren and a Blue Tit flitting around the front garden. I then noticed another bird that immediately struck me as being at least as small as the Wren. I kept my eye on the bush into which it disappeared, and soon spotted it again - definitely a Goldcrest! It stayed in our garden for a while, then went into a next-door neighbour's Holly bush, before flying off to a garden further down the road.
I can't rival John, but it brings the list of birds I've seen in or from the garden to 39. |

Technically it doesn't count because, 1, it was 3 days ago and 2, i was cruising down the Nile at the time.
My bird of today and in this country is a Robin that was happily picking through leaf litter in our garage.

Later on this morning I again looked out from my bedroom window, to see if the Goldcrest had returned. It hadn't, but I was delighted to see this Redwing in our neighbour's tree - only the third or fourth time I've seen one from the house/garden (don't think I've ever seen one in our garden).
Sorry for the poor photo quality - it was through double-glazing and from about 30 feet away. |

It came in after pigeons, fortunately for them they got away, so it landed on the lower branch of a Lime tree adjacent, just giving me enough time to ID it before it took off through the wood!
