| | | Re: Bird of the day! My first ever proper views of a short-eared Owl which flew and circled seemingly right over my head!! A gorgous bird and suprisingly long wings. I was also lucky to see a male ringed plover displaying and singing to his mate, something I have never seen before - a lovely day - but I was up at four am so am about to fall asleep!! |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! You know the best thing about the short eared owl incident was that I KNEW I didn't need to go looking for one, that one day just this would happen, that a short-eared owl would just randomly find me, and here was one, over an old industrial site near Belvedere and the feeling, - rooted to the spot, my breath caught in my throat, trying not to move a muscle less it see me and vanish, I even forgot that I had my camera in my bag - and I'm really glad that I did otherwise I would have wasted precious seconds of the encounter for what would almost certainly be a blurry picture..... I was amazing - best feeling in the world and the entire reason I love birding... nothing like it |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Common Tern for me today. Two reasons: This was the first time I've seen one since I was about twelve and this takes the number of British species I have photographed to 100!

| | | Re: Bird of the day! I caught this chap on the feeders this evening. We often get them flying over but this is the first time I've seen one come into the garden to feed. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Not quite as exotic as a Shrike or a Parakeet, my Bird of the Day is ... a House Sparrow!
Two actually, both male. They were the first ones I've seen in the garden for many years. A few years ago they were easily the most numerous bird in the garden, and then they suddenly disappeared. I was certainly guilty of taking them for granted - I won't do so again! I hope these two come back and bring their friends with them, it would be wonderful to always have them in the garden again. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Never ever go out without your camera!
Today, as I pulled onto the trackway to the reserve, there on the ground were 2 perfectly placed, in excellent light, feeding happily, TURTLE DOVES! I could spit chips for not having it with me! AAAAGGH!
