Identification please on this one....can't find a bird in my bird book with this (very nice) colouring, is it a Mallard?/male/female?

The curly feathers on the tail make it a male bird.

It's what's known as a Manky Mallard. Bit of a Heinz 57 variety. I think this particular one is very beautiful though.
