In this case there can be no doubt about it, and I'll certainly keep watching him. In fact I can't help it, as soon as I go outside he flies to my feet! |

| | | Re: Blackbird trying to remove its own foot. So glad he's doing well. It is really nice to be able to distinguish between the blackbirds - I have one with a white splash on his shoulder (called Captain because it looks like an epaulette ), and it is interesting to see the dynamics between all the birds now that there are so many in the garden on the feeders.
Well done you for helping this little chap! He looks super. |

| | | Re: Blackbird trying to remove its own foot. Aren't birds just so resilient? Great to see he is ok. I have a seagull regularly flying overhead above my garden and he has one leg just dangling but it obviously doesn't handicap it in any way. Amazing creatures. |

| | | Re: Blackbird trying to remove its own foot. I just moved an injured blackbird from the drive way in the estate I work at, brought it into the office in a box with a small tea towel to keep it safe and kept an eye on it for an hour or so. I think it had a broken wing and leg as it slumped over to it's side a lot and would try to push itself back upright but couldn't.
I thought it was recovering when it sat up, wide eyed and was moving about a lot, then it started gasping and had a horrific spasm and layed there motionless and not breathing
Unfortunately I couldn't call a vet to come get it as they're all closed during my work hours (night shifts), but I did my best to keep it warm and comfortable during it's last few precious moments of life. I rested it's body by the trees on the bordering woodland, it's where it would have been happiest |

| | | Re: Blackbird trying to remove its own foot. It's an awful thing to see especially at this time of year when they are probably raising young. The shock would probably have killed it. Poor thing but you did your best | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
