Goose v Goshawk.

Any one else see the photos in the the Indy today of a goshawk attacking a goose? Turned out to be a bad career move. The goose beat the livin' bejasus out the hawk!

Strangely enough (or not) the Goshawk's name derives from 'goose hawk'.

Anyone like to hazard an id for the goose?

The goose (or rather, Gander - it's male) could be a Chinese.

Agree Chinese - Anser cygnoides, domesticated swan goose known as the Chinese.

Its a falcon, not a gosshawk

I wonder if this is a Falconers bird, i'm sure i can see telemetry and is that leathers on its leg?

You can it has a back pack on You can see the antena from the transmitter, Plus anlets and Jesses.

Havoc = from a Gmc. source (see hawk (n.)),

Goose havoc sounds about right for this raptor. Bet it wished it had picked on something less bad tempered, a Wren or a Tit perhaps. Nature Red in tooth and Claw and with blackened eyes!
