| | | Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) ...spotted at about 12.30 by three of us. Stopped dead at a cross roads to admire, caused a queue, followed it for a half mile before it veered off. hairs on my neck still tingling!

I live a very little further north, I hope it's sticking around. Was it travelling when seen? Any ideas what direction? I've seen them in Wales and near Oxford, but never this far inland / North. |

| | | Re: Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) We saw it crcle once just over the High Street, head south for perhaps half mile then head west over the houses. Have spent most of the afternoon around the village but no sign so perhaps it was just a one off. Will take a walk over to the nature reserve tomorrow with the camera at hand.
Andy

Andy | According to the Staffordshire Bird Blog, there was a Red Kite over Cannock Chase yesterday. Must be the same one, surely? It's not like we get many over here.
Lets hope it sticks around. |

| | | Re: Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) I do hope so...although if it thinks its going to get prime beef a la Gigrin Farm its sadly mistaken!
There was a sighting in Telford a week or two ago, can't help but think that it may be the same one, and indeed the same Staffs one.
We shall see what we shall see!

| | | Re: Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) There was a red kite over Cranleigh, Surrey, yesterday at 3pm. This is well off their beaten path too.
And despite it being busy no one else appeared to notice it flying over the market square followed by a trail of corvids. |

| | | Re: Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) Had one in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, last summer, great birds and lovely to see them locally rather than having to go to Oxfordshire and along the M40! |

| | | Re: Red Kite over Albrighton (Wolverhampton) Been keeping my eyes peeled today, but no luck on the kite front. Been down the A41 from Newport area to Wolverhampton, then back round through Telford.
The buzzards seem to have been thoroughly enjoying the sunny afternoon, must have seen 30+ in an hour!! Great sight.
Lots of crows and gulls pretending to be kites too. I know they look very different, but when you're looking for something in particular, everything just starts to look like it! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
