| | Help with nest ID Hey Guys
Whilst working in the forest the other day I came across these two nests. They were both in an 8 year old Beech plantation in Northern Ireland.
This first one was about waist height from the ground with brambles and low branches running through it.
The second nest was about 10 feet above the ground.
Any response to my amatuer question much appreciated |

| | | Re: Help with nest ID First one is a bit impossible, as it's a year or two old, and the bird has interwoven moss which has then started growing - all that green stuff isn't deliberate!
Second one looks like Woodpigeon - a loose pile of small sticks with no lining. |

| | | Re: Help with nest ID I agree with Woodman, the second does look like jay.
The first could be an old Chaffinch nest.

| | | Re: Help with nest ID Could be Jay, but I think I'll stick with woodpigeon - they're not always a shambles, especially if one is built on top of an old nest, when they can be more substantial. The exposed position would fit too. |

| | | Re: Help with nest ID The second one does look like a Wood Pigeon, but could be Collared Dove. Only reason Id go for Woody first is the amount of material used. . First could be a host of birds, but Id say probably a Dunnock or Blackbird depending on size. |

| | | Re: Help with nest ID Nest No.2 is on the borderline at 10ft for Jay, Wood Pigeon or Collared Dove, looks remarkably like an un-lined Hawfinch nest to me.
