| | | Woodpecker habits Our greater spotteds pick up dead leaves from the ground, take them up a tree and hammer hells bells out of them. Why? Perhaps insects are sheltering under the leaves? Any knowledge of this, or other ideas? Just fascinating. |

| | | Re: Woodpecker habits Could well be looking for grubs in the galls, especially if they are Oak leaves, which tend to be peppered with galls on occasion.
