Oops, haven't been paying attention to message this week - in reply to your seeing the owl in Sennybridge, haven't seen it by us for the last two weeks, but have heard it a few times in the night. I spoke with the National Parks' wildlife officer who said it had been reported for the last two years.
My neighbour was feeding it rabbits etc, so does come up to visit - a bit worrying as we have a one-eyed cat who may look tasty, but do keep her in at night. It was definitely tame as you can get quite close without worrying it. |

| | | Re: Eagle Owl about!! If it a European Eagle Owl, the do breed in a few places these days.
They will eat cats, Small dogs -watch the Sennybridge Sheepdog dog sales- and worst of all wipe out the local birds of prey to eliminate the competition.
In short, this is bit of biodiversity that you can manage without.
If it is of European Stock it could well attract a mate quite soon. That is why it is calling.
They breed in Shropshire and Staffordshire- not too far from you as the owl flies. They are incredibly secretive so you may never know if you have them breeding.
I am told that we have them on The Black Isle -just North of Inverness- I am glad that we have no trees in Orkney.

Dave | Where do you get that from?
As far as I know, the only known pairs are/were in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. Some or all of them are reported to have now disappeared (i.e most probably shot) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
