Yep, it must be the first yellowhammer I've seen in back garden for about 3 years, just thought I'd share that bit of excitment. I used to get them everyday but then they disappeared. Mind you I wasn't quick enough to get a camera lens on it, though I did manage a blurred/deleted shot of a Tree Sparrow on my feeder. |

That's great news - very encouraging indeed. Sounds like you have a fantastic garden for birds.

Very close to getting a catapult I am. |

I have a lot of Yellowhammers in the area, and to my great delight had one visit my garden on Christmas morning   |

Not a bird I see at all around me, which is a pity; the only buntings I find are Reed Buntings. |

Mrs. Jones my infant school teacher, taught me to identify the call of the Yellowhammer "a little bread and cheese please"
By the way, that was way back in the 60's and I have never forgotten it.
On a sadder note, my old tom cat presented me with a gift of one, bad pussy
