Lack of greenfinches

Are you saying how have been birdnapped?

Think I saw some in my garden today (see my last) post but I can't be sure they were yours or not. Do yours have any distinguishing marks?

Many Greenfinches have succumbed to Trichomonas disease so that may be a factor, but they may just have moved on.

I've just been looking at my BTO Garden BirdWatch records - I have an A4 sheet for every week I've recorded for them since i started in July 1995, but fortunately I can also look at them on the BTO website!

I've noticed a shortage of chaffinches and goldfinches this year but greenfinch numbers were down at the end of last year. However, things are now improving!

Oops! I forgot to mention that for the BTO count you record the highest number of each species seen at any one time during the week,

I've not seen any in my garden recently but have still seen and heard a lot in the area. Around 10 flew overhead yesterday as I was waiting for the bus to go to work

All ours have gone to, infact a lack of any finches at all here. A few years ago all we saw was greenfinches and chaffinches on our feeders and birdtable, but haven't see a G/f for ages, and only saw a couple of chaffs last weekend when we did the birdwatch survey and they have only recently appeared again. The bird virus as probably done for a lot of them.
