| | | why do I feel pessimistic and hands tied I love woodland and I think corvids are beautiful, amazing birds.
Having read the Times today I feel so flat about the future of both.
Someone give me a lift.
Will ultimately being a member of RSPB and the Woodland Trust be a pointless act of misguided faith?
What can be done? |

What can be done? | With the wealth of news media available to us today, it's possible to find more stories (both positive and negative) about wildlife and habitats in the UK and world-wide. I too sometimes get a tad overwhelmed by discouraging reports of species decline or the destruction of yet another ancient woodland or wetland site to make way for more roads/housing/retail parks. Yet even in these challenging times, people are still very much concerned about our natural heritage and actively involved in safeguarding its future... Witness the lively debate/discussion on WAB and elsewhere about the best way to manage public forests and woodlands.
Being a member of RSPB and Woodland Trust, far from being pointless, supports the work of professional and volunteer conservationists, helping to ensure the survival of individual wildlife sites and promote work such as environmental education (e.g. the RSPB's Living Classroom scheme) which is ensuring that a significant proportion of the younger generation will grow up to share your love of and concern for wildlife and wild places.
And in times like these, when it's easy to feel isolated or powerless in the face of so much financial, social and environmental upheaval, doing something positive like supporting two wildlife charities empowers you and connects you to thousands of other people who feel the way you do. Better to light a single candle... |

| | | Re: why do I feel pessimistic and hands tied It really depends how strongly you feel about things and how much time you have. The pen can be mightier than the sword, write to your M.P. or the newspaper, ultimately it is good to debate. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
