| | | Birds loose in the house. I've been reading a thread where it was mentioned that the poster had spent "hours" trying to catch a blackbird loose in the house. This is what I do:
If it's not dark outside, close the curtains and switch on the light. Spot and memorise where the bird is sitting and switch off the light. The bird will be reluctant to fly in the dark (unless it's an owl!) and can easily be picked up - your eyes will usually acclimatise to the low light more quickly than the bird's.

| | | Re: Birds loose in the house. Why not just open the window or door and let it out? We have had several birds indoors and so long as its daylight outside, they naturally head for the glass anyway. Unless its injured, putting it through the stress of catching it is doing more harm than good. |

| | | Re: Birds loose in the house. The birds don't always see the open window and there may not be a door leading to the outside. I only use the above method if the bird is panicking and difficult to 'herd' to the outside.

The poster was raising a young blackbird and it got loose in the house. Obviously they didn't want it getting to the outside so the open door or window wasn't an option.
