| | | Re: Tree Sparrows Am a bit confused (not difficult for me really!). Why would Bury papers be encouraging people to report ringed sparrows which were ringed in Suffolk. I presume that's what it's asking anyway, not just to report any old tree sparrow, they just want sightings of the ringed ones? I thought sparrows stayed around the same area? Sorry if it's really obvious to people, feeling a bit thick today.

| | | Re: Tree Sparrows The article says that the warden is looking for records of ALL Tree Sparrows seen within 10 miles of Lackford lakes, West Suffolk, but if you do see any to check them for coloured rings and report that also, as Bury St Edmunds is only 5 miles from the reserve I cannot see why you are asking this question. I would have thought that was well within the area a Tree Sparrow may travel.

The BTO Migration atlas states that ,although most seem to be very sedentary, there are some short distance movements (usually post breeding), and some British ringed breeding birds have been found on the continent.
It is easy to assume that some of the birds that we see always remain in the same area (see my recent Greylag Goose tourist thread!). |
