| | | Marsh tit or willow tit id if poss This was as good a photo i could get,i have a few more photos but this is probably the best of a poor bunch.
I know these are difficult but any suggestions appreciated.
This was with a small mixed flock of blue and great tits on farmland hedgerow near a very large mixed wood today in gloucestershire.I have listened to bird calls of both and none matched the call i heard it make. It was a two syllable note.
Also 2 ducks on the local canal for id please |

| | | Re: Marsh tit or willow tit id if poss I wouldn't want to say anything about the tit with any certainty from this photo, but the contrast between the rear cheeks and the whiter ear coverts suggest Marsh Tit to me.
The ducks are domestic Mallards. |

| | | Re: Marsh tit or willow tit id if poss The second photo makes me more convinced that it is a Marsh Tit - if you lighten the image a pale spot can be seen on the cutting edge of the lower mandible of the bill. In combination with the cheek pattern this strongly points to Marsh Tit (assuming that these features aren't photographic illusion of course! ). |

| | | Re: Marsh tit or willow tit id if poss Definitely Marsh tit, a very typical bird, you can see the clear cheek mark (cresent mark between pale and dark cheek pattern) on the first photo and the second, also small bib. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
