| | | What are the chances... this box will attract a Treecreeper? I made this box the other day, its just a standard box, but with a triangular hole that is situated on the side of the box. I used small nails to attach the bark. I have put up 3 Blue Tit boxes close by in the hope that a Blue Tit uses one of these before it uses the Treecreeper box so that it increases my chances of a Treecreeper using this. Any one ever had one using a box? Id appreciate your thoughts/experiences on this. Thanks |

I may be wrong, I usually am, but I think I read somewhere to site the box on the side of a tree that doesn't have lots of moss on it as the moss indicates that that side gets very wet, possibly with water running down the trunk.
I've got a box up for Treecreeper too but haven't had any success yet although something has certainly been roosting in it this winter.
Fingers crossed for both of us . |

| | | Re: What are the chances... Treecreeper boxes are usually wedge-shaped with the hole in the side at the top in the corner nearest the trunk too. Nicely camouflaged box though.

| | | Re: What are the chances... Sorry to say that I don't think Treecreepers will use it, as, if it's a normal tit-type box, then it will be way too large. TC like small cavities (gaps behind bark), much smaller than tit boxes (which are often a bit too large even for tits!). I think you should look up wedge-shaped TC boxes online and then copy the dimensions, then try that. But even then, TC boxes have a low take-up rate, as they have quite large territories and so the chances of your box being in the area where they want to nest is quite low.
I'd guess that your current box will probably just be used by a Blue or Great Tit. |

| | | Re: What are the chances... It is a wonderfully camouflaged net box but don't think treecreepers will use it - they need to push into a tiny space to make a nest - as others have said normally behind a piece of bark. However, as I have said on here before, treecreepers will readily use bat boxes - the space seems just right for them to push in and the back plate is ideal for the fledglings as they can grip to it and then disappear back into the nest easily. I have found that they seem to creep a lot before they actually fly. Good luck. |
