| | Moorhens born last year Hi!
We have a man made lake near us that has been dug out to make way for new offices.
Most of the wildfowl have left the area except for a few moorhens that were born last year. They are swimming around in a big puddle left by the digger machines. I can't get at them to feed them as it is fenced off and when I looked at them this evening they were all huddled around this water sitting in the mud.
I feel so sad for them - what should I do (if anything?) |

| | | Re: Moorhens born last year That sounds very sad. Moorhens are pretty good at dispersal and they will probably move on by themselves. However, if you are worried, it might be a good idea to get advice from a local wildlife rescue who may be able to help out or point you in the right direction for help.
It's good to know these moorhens have a champion in you!

| | | Re: Moorhens born last year I wouldnt worry to much, as wild woman says they can/will quickly disperse. They will probably travel to another area. They can exist in very small water bodies and even away from open water. Its a shame that the pond was removed and they didnt atleast create a new one. |
