| | | Bewick's and more Popped over to Bridge Road in Cobham, Surrey after work yesterday to pay homage to the flock of Bewick's Swans in a flooded arable field just outside of the town. Easy to find, there were 18 of them including several youngsters. One of them even sports a Slimbridge Darvik ring. Lovely birds to see as I haven't caught up with any since the beginning of 2007. These birds were my 200th Surrey bird species and another one for my London list too, being just inside the 20mile radius of St. Paul's Cathedral.
Also present were several Mute Swan, Lapwing, Mallards and at least 10 Egyptian Geese. Just as I was leaving, a Kingfisher whizzed noisily down the River Mole.
Not a bad afternoon for a quick trip out to see some wild swans.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Bewick's and more Excellent well done on reaching 200! I haven't even got 200 for UK yet! I did read reports about them they seem to be hanging around for a while. Gutted I missed a flock of similar size in Harmondsworth the other week
Am heading over to Sheppey tomorrow where I'll hopefully be able to catch my first Bewicks.

| | | Re: Bewick's and more Thank you! Best to look around the fields by Capel Fleet on the road to Harty Ferry. That's where I usually get any decent swans and geese. Keep an eye out for raptors there too. Usually get a Hen amongst the Marsh Harriers. Haven't heard of any Rough-legged Buzzards there this winter though.

| | | Re: Bewick's and more Just read a trip report from Sunday for Sheppey. Kestrel, Merlin, Sparrowhawk, Marsh Harrier, Buzzard and Rough-legged Buzzard all around the Fleet area. No Bewick's but c. 40 White-fronted Geese.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Bewick's and more Where do you get latest sightings for Sheppey? The only place I could find was Kent OS but they didn't have much.
A saw one report of RL-Buzzard, so hopefully that's still around.
Thanks for the tips

Nige | Normally get them from KOS, but find them a little biased toward the Faversham area. Think the report I read was on the birdguides weekly round-up email.
Tomorrow we hope to get Glossy Ibis at Hungerford before heading down for the Eagle at Downton. Plus a selection of waders etc by the coast.
Cheers,
