Just a bit of info,
My local car boot sale, has a guy who makes things in wood. I have bought two feeders, two nesting boxes, and two bird tables, this cost me about £30 quid for the lot. The bird tables are covered, I added extra perches, and they work a treat. Boot sales are worth a try, also Home Base. Asda, and Wilkinsons.

not to hijack Jim, just a thought that many local countryside services will be doing some sort of event soon to make birdboxes, usually cheap (cheep?) or free, ready to put up in the next few weeks.

One for tits and the other three placed side by side to entice the sparrows.
