| | | 2011 Garden list A quick recall of the first six days of the year:
blackbird
dunnock
robin
bluetit
great tit
coal tit
collared dove
woodpigeon
blackcap
bullfinch
chaffinch
goldfinch
(sadly no greenfinch)
Does not include fly-overs and I'm sure the list will get longer come the Spring

| | | Re: 2011 Garden list Quite a respectable list to start the year. Yes the Greenfinches aren't as widespread as they were + didn't see one on Jan 1st when I started my new year's birding, despite 5 other finch species seen. Have seen a few since. |

I am surprised you do not have starlings nor house sparrows on your list. I am inundated with them.
The song thrush is the first in the garden for about 2 years. The mistle thrush was the first for many years and the partridge was the first ever as was the jay. The partridge has become a regular visitor. I have been told that there were a pair of nesting partridges on the nearby golf course last year. Hopefully, they will multiply in this area. It is a lovelly looking bird. |

| | | Re: 2011 Garden list On the 31st of December I had two Lesser Redpolls and a cracking male Mealy Redpoll, both first in my garden but I haven't seen them this year yet although I haven't had a chance to look too much.
Can we count birds that are flying over the garden?
If we can then I can add 150+ Pink footed geese that passed over just after daybreak on the 1st. |
