| | | size does matter...
I went out today birdwatching, up the local reservoir and theres a little hide called 'window in the woods'...i went in and there before me was a plesant gentleman with a massive zoom lens. My aim was to go in there and take a few pics myself , but after seeing the size of his ,i left mine in the camera case .
We chatted a bit and in fact it was enjoyable....i didn't see the treecreeper, i saw from that hide yesterday mind. oh well

| | | Re: size does matter... I used to be the same! I have a 75-300mm lens which is OK, but up against those with 500-600mm I used to feel a bit silly. Now however I think what the heck, I wanna take pics too

| | | Re: size does matter... It depends you can still get good images from hides, or if you sneak up on things. Plus you always get the odd obliging bird. Smaller lenses are good for butterflies and dragonflies which are just as rewarding to photograph as birds. |

| | | Re: size does matter... You can still get good photos with smaller lenses. I`ve only got a 200mm on my Nikon & have sat next to many a person with a "big one". Please don`t be put off You just need to photograph stuff thats nearer
Look at it this way, you are far more portable than them As Dogghound says you are more able to get shots of smaller, closer wildlie.
I`m not knocking you big lens users, just trying to encourage other photographers. You can still get enjoyment no matter what size it is
