| | | Pecking Post? Came across this scene in upland conifer plantation yesterday. It puzzled me at first and I thought it must have been a squirrel, but logic told me a squirrel would eat in situ.
Having seen how a number of the cones had been jammed into the post I guessed it was a Greater Spotted woodpecker (the only common pecker around here) using the post as an anvil for securing the cones. Thre must have been 60+ on the floor below the post. Anyone seen this before or got any other suggestions please? |

and like RKB def GSW...
you can tell by how the cones look to what has done the damage...
squirrells tend to eat /knaw most of cone.
