The bill appears very fine and pointed in the photo (although the fact that the snow has overexposed the photo may have affected apparent bill shape to a degree).
I get the impression that this might be a Dunnock - but I think that it is best left unidentified from this photo. |

| | | Re: Small bird for IDS Thanks all, I took the pic from indoors through the double-glazed window so not too clear. We don't get chaffinches here, and it wasn't dunnock. It was probably puffed up because of the cold, but the little beak was distinctive. It was larger than the blackcap which was also about.

| | | Re: Small bird for IDS Are you able to give any more details about how the bird looked or behaved - any distinctive features that don't show up well in the photo?
Redwing could be another possibility (based on the general shape and suggestion of a pale stripe over the eye), but I would expect the streaking on the breast to show up more distinctly. |
