| | | ID please Hi all
Happy New Year!
I saw this bird on my niger seed feeder this morning, I got a few snaps with my webcam, but by the time I got my camera, it had gone
It looked the size of a goldfinch, but looks a bit like a sparrow / female black cap!
Can anyone help me with an ID please
Regards

i have had some good fortune this week. A waxwing, a group of long tailed tits (never seen them before) and also, the GSP that started to use my feeder regularly in the last week turned up today with a wife! |

It's certainly a redpoll, but since there is a somewhat greyish tinge to the underparts and head, and a definite suggestion of a paler rump, could a Common Redpoll not be a possibility?
Since Lesser Redpoll is the commoner species in the UK, it would certainly be unsafe to say that this was a Common (or Mealy) Redpoll - but I wouldn't be fully convinced that it's Lesser on these two shots. |

| | | Re: ID please The colour of the scapulars, head, back all suggest lesser.
The lack of pale central area on the back suggests lesser.
The primary projection and tail length suggests lesser.
Dark bars on the wing suggests lesser.
Lesser can show a pale rump like this, its usually more extensive in common.
Not the best photos but I personally think its a lesser. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
