I saw some Black-headed gulls today, they are looked like 'winter' birds, however one stood out in that it had a blackish head.
What's going on, why has this one bird got a black head?

| | | Re: Blackheaded Gulls with Black head Seems quite early, but believable, ive not seen any even beginning to moult yet. Had they completed the head moult? They usually have the head moult between January and April. |

Photos shown below.... | Hi, we currently have 2 BH Gulls in South Shields at the moment like that, one with a solid black head and one like yours with a mottled black head.
