| | | Gull i.d Hello all,
I saw this chap and others today. Thinking Herring gull and common gull but the markings of the youngsters are always a pickle for me! Saw my first goosander and brambling today so i'm a very pleased creature
Many thanks,
Little Auk, Cornwall. |

| | | Re: Gull i.d In the top photo the main bird is a sub-adult Herring Gull, probably 3rd winter. There are 1st-W + ad Herring Gulls can be seen around it. The one behind looks much smaller with a darker mantle, so I think 1st-winter Common Gull, though head shape doesn't look as rounded as I would expect.

I think the size of bird behind maybe an illusion + am inclining to a 2nd-W Herring Gull behind the sub-adult Herring Gull, especially on head shape + leg colour.
In the second photo all gulls do look like obvious Herring Gulls of different ages. |

I'm not sure which bird you're looking at, but all look to be Canadas to me. |

| | | Re: Gull i.d Thanks so much all! Very informative responces - i am in awe of your knowledge! Cornish coots are largely fed pasty and saffron cake crumbs which makes them rather large. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
