| | | Birds are staying in bed longer Thanks to people feeding birds on a regular basis birds are getting up later to start the dawn chorous, has anyone noticed this? Feeding the birds can delay their dawn chorus - Telegraph

| | | Re: Birds are staying in bed longer Interesting report. I haven't noticed a difference, but then again, I've always fed birds, so I wouldn't. It's bizarre to think that having plentiful food would be detrimental in this way.

| | | Re: Birds are staying in bed longer Not noticed it here. Ours start to sing before the onset of dawn (usually robin, blackbird, wren, then all the rest) and then converge on the feeders as the sun rises.
They then tend to feast for a while, disappear and sing from the trees until they get hungry again.

| | | Re: Birds are staying in bed longer I haven't noticed it either but what I did notice on the extremely cold days were the birds mainly the tits were still feeding after dusk. |

| | | Re: Birds are staying in bed longer Maybe the dawn chorus was really bird tummy rumbling .... or they woke up because they were hungry, but it was too early to go looking for food so they passed the time singing until it was light enough.
Can't say I've noticed it here though . I have noticed that birds sing much more if they are still looking for a mate.
Maybe if there is plentiful food around they don't have to sing so much to attract a mate as the females are already keen on their territory, for the food. |
