Note the thick streaking on the flanks, and the long hind claw.
It's not dark or heavily streaked enough for a Rock and, besides the above, the Tree Pipits are in Africa at rhe moment. |

| | | Re: what Pipit is this? In hard weather they often come into urban areas. Ive heard plenty of reports of meadow pipits in gardens and town centres this year. |

They're a bird of open country - moors and unmown grassy fields. The song is a monotonous series of thin short whistles, not noted for its beauty (though i do like it!) |

Agree- I'd hardly describe Meadow Pipit as having a beautiful song, though I guess it's evocative of open places. |

| | | Re: what Pipit is this? Dunnock, perhaps? Much prettier song sung from hedgerows and trees, rather than the "parachuting" song display of Meadow Pipits over more open ground.

| | | Re: what Pipit is this? thanks for that, Just strange seeing it on the pavement in a busy town centre in the snow...noted quite a few birds not seen before on the Dee in Chester, little grebe, Tufted duck, and even Goosander, | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
