| | | Killing of Swans Mindless thuggery in Liverpool .... Decapitated swan found at reserve
.... and a propsed cull in Norwich .... Anger over proposed cull
These are beautiful birds. I fail to understand why anyone would want to kill them under any circumstances.

| | | Re: Killing of Swans The first one is sickening, and I was told about the second story earlier today. That article from the Norwich Evening News doesn't really explain why a cull is being called for. But I have been told some fishing groups are claiming swans are damaging fish stocks. It seems hard to believe.

The second, surely there must be cause for relocation instead of a cull? Also I thought swans were owned by the queen would she have to sanction this???

| | | Re: Killing of Swans That is disgusting!
Why do these beautiful birds have to be culled because fishermen THINK they are causing problems with fish. Where is their proof. That newpaper article had a link at the bottom canvassing opinion. Perhaps we should all cut and paste it and take them up on the offer.

| | | Re: Killing of Swans I would say it's to do with the amount of mess they will be putting into the water causing problems, rather than the birds actually harming the fish themselves. Swans are big birds that must produce a large amount of mess throughout the year, that going into the water 365 days a years can't be doing the water quality any good whatsoever not saying i agree with the cull, just trying to put forward the reasons why this might be proposed. |

jaki | But it's not natural for 50+ Swans to be fed by humans in a short section of waterway if people didn't feed them there wouldn't be this issue |

| | | Re: Killing of Swans Can I just say im a fisherman and would never say this! Its often just put up as an excuse by the coucil or whoever wants the cull. In reality it would be the mess that they make which is no excuse! We feed them, they make a mess in return. As always the human will be behind the problem and make it worse with a potential solution |
