Help with ID please
I saw these ducks at Radipole Lake in Dorset. I've been looking in my bird books and can't seem to identify them and was wondering if anyone knew what they were. They were no bigger than mallard ducks, maybe a little smaller.



Sorry the pictures aren't amazing but the light was rubbish today!

The birds are Gadwall. Male and female in the second picture. !st and 3rd pics are male

As Bob says they are Gadwall + they are a bit smaller than Mallard. A dabbling duck that has increased a lot in recent years both as a breeding bird + winter visitor.

yep Gadwall, the black bum is always a give away on the males
