| | | Open fields + big thaw = ? Hi all,
tomorrow, we are expecting it to be quite tropical at around 8 degrees in Essex
Behind my house is field/farmland. A little is my grazing land, behind that, some set aside land that belongs to the farmer (not overgrown as it was cut in the summer).
Today, I have seen my first Fieldfare out there, so maybe, with the big thaw possibly meaning some big worms, we might get a few more Fieldfare, or even some Redwing? Will have to see what tomorrow brings.
I have had a Great Spotted Woodpecker on my feeder for the first time today... the lone Fieldfare and around 20 Goldfinches in the bushes quite near my feeders..... the closest they have got so far! |

| | | Re: Open fields + big thaw = ? I thought you were going to say floods ....
There's a great deal of water coming down our streams already and the thaw has only just started, and there's plenty of snow to melt. |

| | | Re: Open fields + big thaw = ? no floods.... it's not prone to flooding here!
Big thaw has started and we had LOADS of birds..... but mainly starlings and Rooks. The Rooks were out extra early and hung around all day.
Good news is that I counted 5 Fieldfares in my paddock behind the house and we also had a lot of Blackbirds about which are my faves.
No redwing sadly.... I think we might get some more types tomorrow maybe, if the rain holds off during the first half of the day! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
