| | | Any ideas on this bird Well this one has me stumped.
Driving my wife to work this morning at 06:30 , between South Harting and Lavant ( West Sussex) , centre of THIS Map , you need to zoom out a bit
A bird in the road , looks like either a woodcock of a Jack snipe , thing is we are miles from any water , it stayed until the last minute , took off and flew about 10-20 feet off the ground , occasional zig zags , and then flew up and out of sight ( its still very dark) , on the way back , the bird is in the same place
.and flew off doing the same pattern , any ideas ?.
On the bright side , 2 barn and one tawny owl , all alive .
Cheers

The zig-zagging sounds very Jacksnipe-like. Try and get a photo next time, if you can!
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | More like Common Snipe - Jack Snipe aren't noted for towering zig-zagging flight, but Common Snipe are. Plus, Jack Snipe are tiny, about the size of a Chaffinch. Woodcock are about the size of a Collared Dove. Common Snipe are inbetween. |

The size was that of a dove , maybe slightly bigger , I haven't quite got the hang of taken a photo while driving at night yet , I`ll work on that.
