| | | squirell proof feeders... Do they work for the birds....what i mean is , i observed a blue tit fly onto mine, i got a while back...It clung to the outside and went sod this and flew onto the sunflower seed feeder instead.......
did have SF seeds in it but i never see /or noticed the levels going down.
Do they have to get used to it being there or are they fussy
( i have put seed in it now )

| | | Re: squirell proof feeders... just a matter of time really. I have one which took a few weeks to get really noticed, Coal, Willow and the other tits like it a lot, mine is a nut feeder btw. But all of the birds do love the normal sunflower heart feeders.
I no longer bother with a squirrel proof seed feeder, all they do here is grab hold of it and shake it, seeds fall out the ports, and then the squirrels banquet starts... |

| | | Re: squirell proof feeders... I've found the best way to stop the squirrels eating from the bird-feeders is to give them their own food.
This is a squirrel feeder in the garden full of peanuts:
And I also put out a few handfuls of chestnuts and hazelnuts each day.
The squirrels spend so much time burying them, digging them up, and reburying them, that they don't have time to look at the bird-feeders. |

| | | Re: squirell proof feeders... We have two feeder poles, each with a squirrel baffle, where black sunflower seed, sunflower hearts and peanuts are on offer. The only time we had a squirrel problem was when a nearby shrub grew so tall that the squirrels could leap from it directly onto the feeders - so the shrub had to go!!! |

| | | Re: squirell proof feeders... We don't get any squirrels where we are, but I think new feeders of any kind take a few days for the birds to get used to, when I put up the seed feeder it took them two weeks to fathom out when the access holes were. |
