Waxwing Tail abnormality
Hi,

In amongst c100 Waxwings in Hampshire recently I found this one in which the tail feathers seem to exhibit extreme wear. I don't think this can be the case as it appears to follow the exact outline of what should be yellow pigmentation suggesting a possible genetic abberation. Any thoughts?

Well lots of people seem to have looked, but no one has ventured a suggestion Just another of lifes unexplained mysteries I guess (I love unexplained mysteries unless they stay that way!)

It does look strange, but I don't know what the cause is.

Can't offer any help on your question but there were at least 14 Waxwings here this afternoon. As I have never seen them before that's made my day!
