| | | fairy tail story.. A thread on long tailed tits hit me when i signed in today , dame i thought i wanted to write about what i observered. After i see it ( yesterday at work) i was mulling over how and what to type so....( dont get to excited)
once upon a time......
I heard a flock of long tailed tits and when i trained my hearing to locate them there they were half a dozen in a tree about 10 yds from where i was standing..wow i see them for the first time at work...i stood and looked in amazement like i have never seen them before ( i do with any of our feathered friends...).Then out of the corner of my eye i see one of the flock , and to my astonishment it had no tail... a long tailed tit with no tail.. i felt sorry for the little fella until he flew off into another tree.
It had no problems flying mind, which i couldn't get over.
So do birds really need tails?
Do we thik he was a lucky one on feeding day for a raptor?
Or just born without one?
its not everyday we see something like that .
and i lived happly ever after....

| | | Re: fairy tail story.. Tails are important for flight and balance as well as courtship and communication in some species. Long tailed tits are very much at the lower end of the foodchain. A wide variety of things could have happened to its tail, likely predators or a collision with something. |
