| | | Christmas robin alternatives The robin in snowy conditions is the traditional view used for Christmas cards and as an evocation of Christmas.
Last month and after a heavy frost, I came across this pied wagtail that I thought would make an alternative picture for a card
The current snow and ice provided further opportunities to snap other birds in similar situations. This mute swan looks absolutely hangdog and dreaming of Spring
The coot was snapped crossing the ice to the small amount of open water available. There is a good view of its lobed foot
Next is a pair of goldeneye flying across the ice and coming into land
Quite a few reed buntings around (but not in my garden!)
And, finally, this goldfinch on snowy teasles
We also have a duck in the freezer which declined to be photographed.
There must be many more similar pictures out there.
All that remains is for me to wish Season's Greetings to WABers.
Colin

| I noticed this article the other day - apparently Robin is no longer the favorite image according to the RSPB - the Firecrest is, along with Blue Tits and Sparrowz! The RSPB: News: Robin knocked off top Christmas card spot |

I also think bullfinchs and blue-tits look great against a snowy backdrop | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
