| | | Bread crumb in bird 'cake' ? About to construct a load of 'birdy cakes', got most of the nutrious things mentioned in the forum. About bread crumb, I've got crusts of wholemeal, wholewheat and 'nutty' bread to add.
Is it better to add it in lumps, zizz it down into crumb and add it, or zizz it down and dry it in the oven? Still not the number of birds in the garden there were this time last year.Cheers, Tony |

| | | Re: Bread crumb in bird 'cake' ? Best to crumb it so it will absorb the fat. Then it won't choke small birds.

| | | Re: Bread crumb in bird 'cake' ? Better bread crumbs than grass! I know of farmers who used their wives food processor to puree grass samples (If they are growing grass for silage they have some sort of home test kit to show how much sugars are in the sample, the higher the sugar, the better the silage) for testing.
They ended up in hot water especially when they didn't clean it out & left it to all dry on!
ps I use ours to zizz (great word!) peanuts to add into home made fat balls

| | | Re: Bread crumb in bird 'cake' ? I don't make it often now but I zizzed the wholemeal bread to crumb then added the ubiquitous Sunflower seeds and a little suet or fat at a time until I had my cake. It looked so good I was very tempted to add it to a fry up!
