| | | Rendering down fresh suet ! Glad 'er indoors is on evening shift ! Got about 25 lbs of suet to render down ! ! ! I'm slowly roasting the first batch in the oven. Is there a more efficient method of rendering it down ?
I've got a large empty veggie oil drum and a gas ring in the garden, would bunging it all in there be quicker?
Before the moderators blow a fuse, the suet it to make fat balls for the birdies! Never a dull moment in this 'ouse. Cheers, Tony. |

| | | Re: Rendering down fresh suet ! Just found a thingy on the web called "Learn how to cook the way Grandma did". They say chop it up and bung it in a big tin over a low heat for 6 hours.
Looks like I'll be out in the garden most of the day tomorrow. Oh well, it needs a pre-winter tidy up. Cheers, Tony.
This is true. . .
made a mess of pottage (big stew) ran out of suet for the dump's. Grab the suet off the bird table, grate enough to make up the weight required and return to the bird table. Tasted better than ever and the birds were none the wiser, neither was the memsaab until I told her years later ! ! Cheers, Tony. |
