Starlings at Slapton Ley

We are fortunate to live near Slapton Ley in Devon and wanted to ask about the starlings flocks that can be seen prior to roosting in the reeds by the Ley. We haven't seen them there, and presumably we are too late this year. What approximate dates do they start and end their 'murmarations' and what weather conditions are ideal for viewing?

We used to watch them when we lived in Eastbourne (roosting under the pier) and they were a fantastic sight. We saw them often because they were near the centre of town so you couldn't miss them but I never noted the times of year they were there.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look on Google, winter Slapton Ley national nature reserve.

Your best bet would be to ring the Field Centre FSC - Slapton Ley although I have never found a visit to the beach or Ley walk to be a waste of time, there is always something of interest, it is one of my top two places to visit.
