| | | Red Kite with bread Hi all,
Red Kites were introduced to an area near me, so they aren't so unusual to see. I've always wondered how they could find enough to eat. I noticed a Red Kite quartering the ground out the back of my house, which overlooks arable fields. Leaning out of my daughters bedroom to take a shot (like you do) I managed to get this, showing the Red Kite with bread - Warburtons by the look of it! It then proceeded to scoff the bread on the wing.
I'm afraid there's a bit of camera shake but I'm sure you'll forgive that. |

| | | Re: Red Kite with bread Thats a great capture, and out of the bedroom window. I only saw my first Red Kite a month or so ago in the Brecon Beacons, loverly looking bird and sadly no camera to hand.

| | | Re: Red Kite with bread I don't why I keep saying tesco I hate the place, there never seem to be any birds where we go, may be they can tell a sparrowhawk lover when they see one. |

I just love the way they gracefully fly and glide... it sends me into a trance when i see the one that is around at work...

| | | Re: Red Kite with bread What kind of area do you think they'd be comfortable landing in? I've got a 30'/50' garden surrounded by trees and kites regularly soar overhead (edge of Chilterns). I've also been leaving bread with jam out for the local fox, although most of that is going to a mouse who can't quite believe his/her luck
I've also just bought a motion sensor camera as an early Xmas present which I have aimed at the food site and the idea of capturing a kite is quite exciting (assuming there is any film space left after the mouse has finished).

Maurice | It's about the same size as mine BUT I have an arable field the other side of my back hedge. I think the piece of bread was picked up from the field where a crow probably dropped it. It's a bit of a dilemma where I am - keep the hedge and keep the big birds out or take the hedge down in the hope of getting something bigger in. On balance though I keep the hedge - if only to give somewhere for the little stuff to frequent.
Good luck with your setup. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
