Woodpecker comes to visit

Well, I've lived here for 11 years and didn't even know that woodpeckers were in the area, let alone coming to our garden.

We first saw him on Saturday last week and I've finally managed to get a half decent shot. Waiting around for him has made me close to being late for work on numerous occasion this week

I'm hoping he's here to stay

first for me woodpecker on my peanuts the other day, not seen him again though.

The cold weather has been really good at moving birds about and getting them in gardens.

We usually see about 5 or so goldfinches for a few days each year (usually January or February) but we have had a flock of 20 or so at some time every day last week.

We're lucky in that we have Goldfinches all year round. Wonder if we'll get woody all year round now

Woody will stay with you all year if you carry on putting out a good mixture of food, as your pic shows. You'll find he does a daily circuit of the gardens with feeders, and will visit you six or seven times if his "area" includes your garden.

We have a pair, and their juvenile from last summer - but at the moment none are very friendly towards each other, and will shoo anyone else off.

I have a giant size peanut feeder which stays up all year & we regularly see a woodpecker on it.

Exactly the same scenario in my garden. Male visits all year and is joined from late summer by juvenile and female.
I have a peanut feeder and fat block holder hanging from a tree which has holes drilled in it that I stuff with suet pellets which they love.
