| | | Blackbird being very territorial Up here in the north east we have had a fair amount of snow an to help with feeding the birds I have kept an area of lawn free from snow and provided a bowl of drinking water.
Over the past 2 days a blackbird has decided, it appears, that I've made provision only for him. I think he's taken residence under a nearby snow cover shrub and chases away any other birds.
Is this normal behaviour and/or is it because of the weather conditions?#
At present the sun is shining and it's not snowing but we are enjoying
our garden visitors whatever their demeanor. |

| | | Re: Blackbird being very territorial Hi Like you, we too have a very territorial Blackbird, we were in fits this morning when it swooped down and bounced its underside off the head of a woodpidgeon, it seems to spend all its day chasing all and sundry! Hilarious |

| | | Re: Blackbird being very territorial Yep, they can be. Last winter, I had a female Blackbird come into the garden to chase away a Song Thrush, that was minding it's own business and then in came the male to chase the female away!
Only way and not 100% perfect, is to try and clear two areas to feed the birds, but even this isn't deemed to succeed, if the Blackbird has it's own way! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
