This morning, we saw this bird in our backyard watercourse known as Lydd Petty Sewer.
Could anyone confirm it's a snipe  |

Yup a Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

welcome, its strange you now cause i saw my first snipe yesterday, but wasnt sure and wanted conrimation.
but thats exacly what i saw, so im happy now..

Now with this freak weather, two weeks ago, a shoveller landed in the same ditch....swimming among the mallards. That was surprising for me. |

on the subject of snipe, i take it , its not unsual to see them on land sticking there bills into the frosted snow covered grass is it?

No, but beware confusion with Woodcock if you aren't familiar with the species.
