| | | Leighton Moss info Thinking about taking a trip down, but couple of questions first if any one can help. The main 2 birds Id like to photograph are Bearded Tits and Bittern. Firstly what are the chances of getting close enough to a Beardie for a decent picture, Id prefer it not to be on a feeder. Secondly what are the odds on even seeing a Bittern? One in ten or higher than that? Hope someone can help |

| | | Re: Leighton Moss info I think you stand a good chance of seeing both, patience permitting. I'm no expert but have seen BT's in several areas from the western tracks and public footpath across the causeway.
I haven't been since this freeze started but in previous years when the open water has frozen over have seen bitterns on the ice from Lilians Hide at a time when the staff were feeding them sprats.
Don't ask me about calculating odds, Pauline - PMG - or others might be able to advise further.
You'll get a flavour of what's about from The RSPB: Leighton Moss: Recent sightings |

| | | Re: Leighton Moss info This cold snap should help with the bittern, bringing them out in the open. The Causeway has long been a reasonable spot to see bearded tits (though in loads of visits I've only ever seen them once! You can hear them a lot though. They visit grit trays here, so that might not be what you are after in your photos.
