The dark-backed one. It looked about twice as big as the mallards.
It's obviously some sort of escaped domestic duck, but does anybody know what sort it is, please?   |

I asked the same question about a yera ago when I spotted one of these at Thamesmead in south-east London. It's a Rouen duck, and you're spot on that it's a domesticated breed and this one is either an escapee or a member of a feral population.

Possibly a Cayuga duck cross of some kind? (a breed with full-body iridescent green plumage).
Drakes weigh around 3.6kg - much bigger & heavier than the average wild mallard drake (according to BTO, typically 1.2kg).
I must say, it's very beautiful for a 'manky' mallard!  |
