| | | Bird Brains This may appear to be a somewhat facile question, but it has puzzled me for some time. How do the goldfinches immediately know that there are niger seeds in the plastic feeder that I put out in the tree in my garden? They just arrive as if by magic! |

| | | Re: Bird Brains Good question but perhaps they've been accustomed to niger feeders elsewhere and spotted yours quickly. It's not always the case that birds find the feeders straight away, sometimes it take time and patience before they put in an appearance.

| | | Re: Bird Brains Keep feeding them. A few years ago I was involved in selling wild bird food. One customer bought niger seed for the couple of goldfinches that visited his garden and by the end of winter he was buying it by the sack just to keep his five feeders full up for the 30+ Goldfinches he got everyday. |

| | | Re: Bird Brains i saw my first goldfinch on my niger feeder about a month ago , never seen it since, but then the other day it came back , but to my surprise it went to the sun flower seeds/hearts .It was intresting seeing it there just perched eating away , unlike the tits that do there hit and fly tactics...... |
