| | | new to bird spotting, questions/ Hi All
I have a couple of questions, I have a elderberry tree in my garden, (town house) i have added a feeder close to the tree with seed and nuts, we have spotted sparrows, too quick to get photos to see if they are tree or house sparrows, blue tits and coal tits, my wife saw a Greater spotted woodpecker on the nut feeder when i was at work, gutted i missed it, so do wood peckers return to feeding spots? and below are some pics i took today, one of a blue tit, and the other i am unsure, i have looked through my book and the nearest comparison i can find is a dunnock, probably wrong anyone offer a propper I.D.? |

| | | Re: new to bird spotting, questions/ You already have a proper ID for the birds in your photos - you're own ID's are correct.
As for the woodpecker, yes they do return to feeding spots - if your feeders are kept stocked it might become a regular visitor. |

| | | Re: new to bird spotting, questions/ welcome, nice pics there , i had a woodpecker middle of the year come down, like yourself im new at it all as well , was over the moon , it kept coming back for more then when my ID improved , noticed a male and female were taking turns , then some young.. so i dont see no reason why they wont come back.I put out some suet cake ( not home made..still yet to try ) and the woodpecker seemed to love that so , that could be a poss to try as well. |

| | | Re: new to bird spotting, questions/ Welcome indeed. I'd say you're doing just fine for someone new to "bird spotting".
Quite a good giveaway for Dunnocks are those salmon pink legs. No other garden small brown jobby has anything quite like them.

| | | Re: new to bird spotting, questions/ Welcome. Green woodpecker on the lawns is a regular visitor here. The spotted wood pecker does visit but is not regular to our trees at the front.Too many comings and goings by the humans.
