the birds start going mad for berries!

Just looked out of our lounge window, and there are 4 blackbirds and a thrush in the May Tree in our garden, queuing up for their turn at the Pyracantha which growns up the front of the house. There are more already in the bush taking the berries, but there seems to be no argument or agression over it, they all seem to be taking turns!

I always thought it was an old-wives tale that lots of berries mean a hard winter, but our Pyracanthas are loaded at the moment, and obviously a great help to the birds over this cold snap.

The black grouse come down from the moors to the valley - always a sign of very cold weather here.

yes when i put up the other day the gulls coming over the pennines , and onto the common near me was a sure sign, i got ridiculed, but hey , whats happend, i dont have to comment, as nature will do the talking. rossy.

The blackbirds are drinking out of the dog's outside water bowl because everything else is frozen.

The Starlings have moved into the big tree down the road where they sit and watch the all the gardens waiting to see who puts food out for them..
Then swarm in like locust and polish off all the fatty foods and seeds or leftovers then leave as quick as they arrived..

The long tailed tits have returned
I only seem to see them in the extreme cold and there they were today, a group of 5 of them in my back garden.
I saw just one (in the front garden) on Thursday and wondered where the rest were.

The blackbirds and thrushes love the berries on the trees in the park at the back of me and i did see redwings there last year, not seen any so far though.
A cheeky blackbird very often bathes in my dogs outside water bowl!

Little robin didn't wait till I'd finished putting the food out before he was there tucking in, he was within arms length of me. Also had a big jay on the bird table, haven't seen him for ages.
