| | | What rarity would really get you going? Since I subscribed to a text alert group that lets me know when rare birds are in my area I have not really got too excited with the reports I have had. Plenty of different bird alerts, but nothing that rocked my boat. I was thinking of which species would get me going and thought of Great Grey Shrike, Hoopoe and Hawfinch. Just a silly thread this, but what 3 birds if you could choose any (possibilities of course) would you like to appear near you? |

| | | Re: What rarity would really get you going? 1) Black-browed albatross, because I missed one this summer whilst seawatching and it was recorded 5 miles down the coast, so must have passed me but further out to sea (I hope) not a hard bird to miss.
2) Brown Shrike, missed one by a night about a month ago, another extremely rare bird
3) And Rustic Bunting similar reasons to the others, spent about 5 hours trying to get onto one but it didnt show up, then the next day I was at work and showed brilliantly all day.
Ive put these up because they are birds which ive narrowly missed which is a key reason I want to see them. |

After that, I'd like to see a Brown Shrike again if it was local. Had one at one of my local patches for 2 months last year!
A local Bee-eater or Roller would be nice.
And like Dogghound, I missed a Buff-breasted Sandpiper that was down at Scotney Marsh. It was there but not when we were looking, and then got flushed with 100's of Golden Plover by mushroom pickers!! Wasn't seen again that day |

| | | Re: What rarity would really get you going? I'd say snowy owl first, then black-browed albatross, then wallcreeper.

| | | Re: What rarity would really get you going? Black grouse, Honey Buzzard and Firecrest. All possibly do-able round here (North Yorkshire).
