| | | Top up those feeders Now is the time to make sure the birds have plenty of food and water during this cold snap, who knows, you may be rewarded with something unusual in your garden, like this:

| | | Re: Top up those feeders Funny you should post that picture. I had a GSW on the feeder earlier this week, as far as I know it's the first time. They are common around here I see or hear them most days but that was an interesting visit!
I am thinking of launching a competition - how many species can you see at one time in your garden? I think my record is 7:
Wood Pigeon, Chaffinch, Dunnock, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit and Robin. I've also had Nuthatch on the feeder this week. There does seem to be a lot of activity of late. It is cold but not that bad and no snow yet!

| | | Re: Top up those feeders Im starting to get a lot of Marsh tit activity, had 1 on monday (1st ever seen within 2 miles of the garden), another single on wednesday and two today. Also upto 7 blackbirds including 4 continental males which look set to winter here. Dunnock, 2 robin, blue tit, great tit, long tailed tit and chaffinch. The weird thing is hardly any of them are actually visiting the feeder, there all just sat in the trees. Marsh tit, blue tit, robin and dunnock are the only birds that have been on the feeder.
No GS woodpeckers though, only ever had one in the garden that was 5 years ago.
About 2inch of snow and continuing to come down. |

| | | Re: Top up those feeders MT would be a mega for me (garden list wise), although I am a little surprised I haven't seen one around - reasonable habitat I would have thought.

Rob S | Its a mega garden bird here. I have Lived here 15 years and never had one in the garden until this week, although a decent breeding population approx 2 miles away, which is fragmented by pastoral farmland. I am delighted with these birds in the garden. Willow tit about 5 miles away too but that might be pushing it a little. |
